You could always put a transparent (not translucent) over white, and you would still get the reflectivity or if you have a printer you could print the colour or you could have it screened.

Interesting, I wonder what a rainbow print on clear design then applied to white reflective would look like on the sides of a vehicle especially at night(perhaps a legal problem with the red though but I think it’s a strong recommendation not to do it rather than a law) ….

I’ve made small advertising direction signs for a restaurant using that method and it works a treat.

I have also been thinking about doing it for the back of my van for a year or so. Laying down a good grade of reflective then printed (& laminated) clear.
Would be mainly a blue design with yellow text & various colour graphics. Then just replacing the clear whenever i fancy a change.

Legally…no specific law covering a multi-colour graphics but the possibility of getting pulled by plod, fined & points for whatever random charge they fancy is what’s stopping me!

    Thanks All

George, had a look at the link, but like most suppliers they list just a mid green, but good link for all things reflective

Jayne, this looks like the root to go down, will have to try the transparent oover reflective, as i don’t print.

Are you a supplier of vinyls?

    Regards
    Richard

    I think you can?

If not though I think Jayne is from Vinyl Logistics, who do offer a transparent range if I am not mistaken…

A plug with no rule-breaking… probably!

    Hi Richard

Most manufactures of Reflective vinyl only make colours suitable for Traffic Use i.e Blue, Red, Green, Yellow, Brown and Orange – There are two shades of standard Green available – the normal Green you see which is sometimes referred to as Worboys Green (UK Traffic Sign colour) and Interstate Green (Used in the the US and Europe)

You can screenprint or digitally print custom colours onto the white base films with varying degrees of success (dependant on shade of colour will vary the level of reflectivity possible)

If the colour is for Highway signs you should only use Worboys Green, if the green is for vehicles you can theoretically use any colour for branding (as long as you don’t have reflective white to rear … big no no !)

Finally be careful if using a self coloured transparent film to overlay as many of these are not suitable for long term outdoor use.

the new oracle printable range has two greens, one is like our usual green, the other is a lighter green, almost an emerald green, trouble is, europoint can’t stock everything and you’d need to order it by the roll.

the new 5600 has some great colours in it and it’s printable, but without the demand the supply just isn’t economic.
