  • Signwriting on slate question?

    Hi All

I have not done any signwriting since my college course about 15 years ago so need some advice.

A customer has asked me to re letter a slate house name plaque. The existing paint is flaking off. It’s only a 6 letter name so I thought I would like to give it a try.

Would lettering enamels like One Shot be OK and do I need to prepare the surface after removing the remains of the original paint?

AJ mentioned HG Marble Impregnator in a previous post to use prior to painting. Any other tips or suggestions would be welcome.

    Thanks

    Chris

Oneshot would be fine. Once you have removed all the old paint give the lettering a thin coat of oneshot to act as an undercoat – let it dry overnight then go over it again for the final coat. Sand down the whole face with wet and dry.

    Hope that helps

I’ve painted plenty of slate with one shot. No problems!
