  • Seal vinyl decals for cleaning over them

    Howdy guys 😀

Right I have a question about protecting decals.

I have cut some sponsor decals for my motorbike, here’s a pic to show you what I mean better :

Now, I am taking up detailing where I want to keep my bike very clean, showroom clean in fact 😎 but that is going to involve my jet wash which I know the bike is ok with already, but I am told to go over my motorcycle with a soft mitt for cleaning, but if I rub anything over these decals it’s going to fetch the corners up on some of the sharp edges 🙁

I am supposed to use wax on a small round soft pad over the bodywork but its just not going to glide over the decals and the microfibre cloths are going to get bit of cloth stuck on the decals.

In an ideal world this would have been lacquered over but I don’t want to do that as I may want to add or take away some decals in the future.

I have seen a seal-it pen on evilbay which claims to seal decals, but I wanted to get your guys professional opinion on what if anything I can do to protect these decals so I can keep my motorcycle really clean without fetching them off or cleaning around them.

    Many thanks.

    Matt 🙂

do not use a pen or varnish if you want to change latter.

as you make your own experiment use a high quality cast vinyl as its thinner

    Hi Chris 🙂

I use Oracal 751 C vinyl as it is, do you know of one more suitable for me ?

    Thanks 😀

    nothing wrong with 751c.
i quite often cut of very thin small points of a design or design in rounded corners or ends.

power washers do not clean paint work only remove the worst of the muck.then wash with a soapy mitt, rinse off then leather and polish, remove excess polish around a decal with a soft tooth brush.

    enjoy

Matt you could over laminate with clear a little over the size of the decal

I had some 30 micron cast laminate from KPMF last week, now that is really thin!

Thanks for the input folks, much appreciated 🙂

I might have to try that 30 micron cast Lorraine, thinner the better for what I need 😀

    Cheers again.
