  • Roland PC60 Banding – Self Test printing Perfect

Posted by Vinyl Cut Graphics on 29 November 2008 at 11:31

    Hi all,

I am new to the site and am sorry that my first post is a question.

Recently I purchased a Roland PC60 after getting it home I tried the print, however it has banding across it. I ran a self test and that prints perfect.

I’ve tried a Line Pitch Adjustment but it made no change.

Can anyone kindly offer advice as to what I could try.

    I appreciate any help.

    Thank you

    Michelle

    Welcome to the signboards Michelle.

The simplest cause may be a faulty ribbon. I used to have problems with magenta ribbons, but changing to a different ribbon supplier cured the problem. Try printing large blocks of solid colours C , M, Y and K to see if any particular ribbon is at fault.

If there is a fault with the head you will get lines in the print, basically small gaps where the head doesn’t put down any colour. These bands are roughly 1cm apart and consist of very fine lines that would also be seen in the test print.

When a new head is fitted – it needs to be carefully set up (not just physically fitted into place). There is a voltage adjustment that needs to be made to set the machine up to match the head that is fitted. This is normally a job for an engineer, but I believe Chris (Wool) may have the instructions for doing this. If not set up properly, a new head can print with bands of colour – this may be your problem.

    Hi

I have printed blocks of solid colours C , M, Y and K, however the banding is running through all of the colours.

The Yellow and Magenta are both brand new and the Cyan and Black are partly used.

Would it be adviseable to contact a service engineer to come and take a look as the self test is still printing perfect.

If I need a service engineer, do you know any that services the West Midlands area.

Again Thank you for your time and help.

    welcome Michelle

    as phill says.
please put the feed adjustment back to 0 and leave it there.
are there lots of lines in the print or just a faint line every 8mm.
the vinyl can make a big difference to the quality of print what make are you using. also what make of cart + ribbons.

you may have a bit of dirt on the head, the cleaning pad on the left hand side of the machine must be spotless as the head cleans its self before every cart pick up.
could be handy if we could see a little of the print.
the trials of new pc60 ownership is a pain but when right a good little machine.

As Chris says – can you scan the print and upload it to the site so we can see the problem for ourselves? This way we can avoid jumping to the wrong conclusions 😀

    one more thing:
working temperature in the room can be problem also
in early morning when temperature in your room can be little lower then for example 10 degrees then happens wierd things when print
or in hot days ( if do not have good klima-system) when temp is more then 27-28 in my case have not good looking print jobs or repeatly break ribbon tape

I was curious if anyone has a new or used main board for the PC-60 as I am new to this forum and can use some help, purchased the unit from a friend, and unfortunately put a screw that holds the stand on in the hole that was given to me and wore away some of the lines,so I think the board is shot, the cost of a new one is crazy, any help on a used machine with parts would be great
    Thanks Brian

Hello, i have similar problem with banding and am using pc 600, i thought it was magenta that was causing it, but have just printed out solid blocks of c m y k and the lines are running through all colours, lines are fine and every 8-9 mm , have tried various line pitch adjustments and the results are similar any advice, would be much appreciated 😀

That is what i thought, but was just wondering if there was a less expensive solution after reading some of the posts on similar problem.

Do you have or had one of these, to know that is definately the case ?

    Hello, First name terms?

I have a 600 and had the same symptoms, be it a line of dots or a continuous line running across the print, if it’s happening with all colours, you can bet that the print head is shot.

I’m sure that someone might be able to suggest a definitive test.

    Cheers

    Hi Paul,
Having seen what is involved in changing the head for the PC 600, I personally would not attempt to install one .

If you are in the South East of England, circa 100 miles from London, I would be happy to recommend a technician to do the job for you, if not, then I’m sure that others reading this thread would suggest someone for you.

    I hope this helps

It’s usually four times the price that you’re thinking of, three times of what you can afford and double what is generally deemed to be reasonable.

It would be best to get some quotes from technicians near to you as travel costs play a big part of the final cost.

    Best regards

Jeremy, i ordered a replacement head from a seller in china on tuesday ( same amount of us $ as roland wanted in £, so saved quite a bit) & recieved it today, 3 days later and fitted it myself & all seems to be working fine :lol1:

Thanks for your help with service manual.

    Hi Paul,
I’m glad to hear that everything went well, was the installation as easy as you suggest? the way I looked at it would definitely need a qualified technician.

    Thanks for keeping us informed.

    Hi Paul

Who in china was that then M8, I am sure many of us could do with that contact should we need to get a new head 🙁 , That was a very fast service, what was the total cost with shipping.

    All The Best

Alfred cheung at print part shop, head was $485 shipping $57 and $40 paypal fees, total $582, (roland wanted £508 +vat) ordered & paid tuesday morning uk & it arrived 11am friday with fedex.

Was easy to fit, biggest problem was being a bit worried in case i cocked anything up, but the service manual was very clear and made it fairly simple as long as you are reasonably technical minded.
