    Hi all

Newbie to color management. I’m trying to match a previouslyy screen printed stonney grey with suttle green. Can match it ok under flourecent light condition, but theres a severe color shift to green under day light and lilac/brown under yellow light. I use Rolandd sp300/colorrip eco-sol-max combi .
? is it impossible to get this color the same under these different light conditions. ? and is this always the case with cmyk printing. ? Should the veiwing light condition be specified by the customer.

Any help appreciated, very important job.

not trying to sound negative, just giving my advice mate…

DITCH IT and give him as close as you have in print. you could be there for ever and a day and not get it right.

i have drawn a blank on remembering the name, but we use a panton book that is split in two. one side has the pantone colour the other has the colour output from the printer you should expect, or as near as… this is a pretty good starting point for near matches.
im sure others out there will know what i am on about and may know the name?
anyway, we paid about £95 for it from noel at silverskies and "i think" grafityp do one too… but better checking on that…

colour management can be expensive and a big deal but i personally wouldnt go there unless you have a customer stipulating all this and willing to pay for the luxury…

yes its a pain and varies between materials as well, print a colour chart and let the customer choose. presuming its a cmyk vector graphic.

I had a client last week who was really sensative on there company colours and kept quoting pantone numbers and ral numbers at me but where not happy with results, i did some digging and discovered that my rip Wasatch/troop can print a colour sheet with rgb numbers next to each colour, this worked great they picked what colours they wanted and i changed them in the rip and because it is printed on your printer the colour they chose is the colour they get.

    Regards

    Russell.

    Thanks all

Good to know about the swatch Rob and I’m feeling a bit more confident now about providing the samples. Its not so much this particular job im worried about its all the other label jobs the company got me to price with it. If i loose this one might loose them all. Apparently Neutral Grey’s are the worst for cmyk colour shift (metamerism). D.day Monday.

Does any of you guys use light boxes for colour matching ?
