I’ve never noticed this before, but I’ve had a file in Corel V12 for a few years that I have been reprinting, but recently needed to make a slight change, so decided as I’m using X3 now, I’d start printing from that version now.

Problem is, the colours, although the same PMS in both files, are not the same shades as V12.

I’ve just grabbed another file and printed it in V12, then re RIPed it in X3, and the colours are darker, although the same pms.

Any one give me an idea why that might be?

    Hi Shane
we have had the same problem we were told to load it in to illustrator as this had better colour control. not sure if that helps or not. we also had to submit the fill as a tiff. only business cards, so it may not be relevant.
    cheers Mike

Thanks Mike, I don’t have illustrator 🙁 I was told a pdf would be a better colour, but I’ve just ripped a pdf file, and it is no difference 😕

It’s probably your colour management Shane, X3 was changed to represent CMYK by default, goto the colour manager and click the button to RGB this should help, also go through the profiles in X3 and ensure they are the same as your V12 setup. FYI mine are set to: Adobe – RGB 1998 for the central colour space with rendering intent set to perceptual, an arrow points to separation printer set to Euroscale coated, From central space an arrow points to monitor profile (you can try arrow from separation printer to monitor, there are differing opinions as to the best settings) everything else is off. My set up is primarily for litho output but I use the same for digital, I regularly send file to a colleague who runs X3 with a Mimaki setup and Colourgate RIP and I’ve never had any nasty surprises when the jobs come back.
A school of thought says have jobs as RGB and let the RIP sort it out others say cmyk and CMYK is my choice.

Thanks Alan, CMYK is my choice too.

I’ll examine both files as you suggest. Makes perfect sense, don’t know why I didn’t think of that in the first place. (My wife reckons its a male thing) 😕

    Cheers
