I have recently been bitten by the vinyl graphic bug and as i got more into it i purchased the impact vehicle outlines .Now i have corel draw x4 and i have looked every where for help on how to get the lettering i place on the car template to scale when cutting it out.I have contacted impact but because im very new im sure they thought i knew what i was doing well i might one day)and i was totally lost with his explanation so what i think might be good is a small tutorial on how its done the` right way or maybe a video.I have looked in many forums where people have asked a similar question and the only replies seem to be" go look for yourself there will be something somewhere" or another answer is "i dont use that software".so please if there is some one out there with the knowlege on how to scale properly with corel x4 i really would like to learn this as im sure there are others also interested. Please help
    many thanks

with corel you use the full size outlines not the scaled ones.
import the eps outline and start designing on top of it.
that way there is no scaling to be done, cutter driver software is different from cutter to cutter so what have you

There should be eps ai plt and cdl on the disc, if it is genuine.
you just need to import the relevant file, check with the book which one it is, What software are you using?

    Kevin,
I just tried mine *x3 xp eps)and all is fine (I use siglab so dont normally use eps )

I used the import option, with the full image box selected,
and the file opened full size, make sure you are not dragging the mouse pointer when importing, just ckick once or you will resize the image

    Hope this helps

The CDL file id for Signlab only. In X3 use the import option and choose the eps filter (X4 users use PS filter) from the the next dialoge box select import as editable and the outline should import.
If you put the outline on another layer and lock it you won’t pick it up by mistake when creating your layout. WARNING Impacts outines are as good as you’ll get but it is still worth running a tape measure over the actual vehicle to ensure measurements are as expected, this will avoide costly mistakes.

we use the ai files and then copy and paste the design to a new document without the outlines and then scale by 2000% and you should find that they work!! Not sure if this is the correct method but we have been doing it for a couple of years without dramas, just be aware the drawings are not always 100% if you are including partial wraps or floods in your design, I would always leave some bleed that you can remove later..

    hope that makes sense??

Peter your blob on well done ,what i have been doing is importing then dragging to the a4 size so when i come to cut /plot the lettering its the wrong size.what i do now in x4 is import the eps file and just click on the desktop without dragging then i reduce the size of the mage with the magnifying glass to a size so i can see all the car outline, then put on my text on the car outline and it should show you the size of the lettering in the box at the top of x4.when i use cut/plot with my Graphtec CE5000 ,copy this size into the cutter.I have to copy the size of the lettering size because when i use the cut/plot on my Ce5000 it comes up as a differtent size but this i will have to sort out at a later date. Many thanks to you all but Peter is the star teacher thankyou

I think Impact should include "a dummies guide to vehicle outlines" :lol1:

I was having the exact same problem as Kevin until I read Peters post, Just click n go 🙄

(now how do I change the vehicle colour in one easy step :baby:)

Neil spit the dummie out it’s simples.
if you are using sign lab click on a place, usually the roof that selects all of the vehicle and change the colour, and then group it and do your stuff.if you don’t use sign lab I have no idea but the principal must be the same.

I would think it is the same Lynn. Certainly is in Illustrator.

All the Impact drawings have a line that goes all around the painted vehicle area. Just select that (I normally go for the roof as well) and change it to your required colour.

Neil/Kevin, you’re both UKSG members. Have you watched the video tutorial? You might pick up some pointers.

    Just adding my cents.

The outlines from Impact are very good, however as they do say – check the dimensions on the car before cutting anything – that way you don’t get expensive mistakes.

In Corel you would ungroup the eps and click the line around the outside of the vehicle to select the colouring path, very usefully the library has this path under all the other layers so you can colour the car without stressing about the lights and trim etc.

Thanks guys, I’m using X3 so never bothered watching the signlab tutorial. I’ll do the outline/roof selection tonight when I’m playing about with it again, I knew I was doing it wrong by filling every individual panel, still got a lot to learn about corel.

In Corel Draw there is no need to ungroup first. Hold the control key when you left click on the outside shape and this will be selected, nodes will change from square to round, select colour and then click away – whole shape is still a group. For objects further in a group – repeat left clicking with control key until object is selected.
