    sorry could not resist.

    hi all,

We want to get some mugs printed with our logo so i visited our local supplier who does all of our clothing etc and who does mug printing.

I wanted 20 white and 20 black mugs but he said that it would be hard to get complete black mugs and they would need different setting up? – so in the end i asked for a quote on white only.

for a standard mug he wants £3.95 each + VAT

Our logo is round so there would be a lot of empty space either side of the mug – not sure if this is a factor?

    does this sound about right?

Thanks for any advice or help as i am a total novice when it comes to sublimation.

    thanks,
    Rick

    Hi Rick,

Black mugs. He is right, as with anything black you would need to have a layer of white beneath the image / logo / text etc so that it can be seen. If you have a bucket of black paint and put in some yellow, you still have a bucket of black paint, it’s the same when you are printing.

So, I am presuming that if the mugs you wanted were completely black (ie didn’t have a white section on them for dye subbing ) then you would have to have those either pad printed or screened as there is not an option for white inks in dye sublimation. The ‘exception’ to this is if you used a colour changed mug – which are black when cold but change to white when hot.

Price wise, that is a lot more than we charge for trade clients or bulk purchase clients. But I have no idea what others on here sell their mugs for and they may not consider it expensive.

There is a quotes section on here, might be worth your while asking for one 🙂

I dont consider that too expensive for 40 mugs. Depends where he buys his mugs from really as Subli Mugs arent particularly cheap in the UK.

Rick – colour change cost a bit more than your standard 10/11oz white mug but they’re an option nonetheless which needs no different setup for dye sub printing.

If a customer was giving me all their clothing etc orders I’d be doing 40 mugs for £3 including vat for them. Still a reasonable profit in it at that price.

That was my thought Mark, if I am getting other item orders from this client I would offer a price that was good to us both, ensuring I kept his business.

For one off order then I agree that the original quote isn’t over the top.
