hi all, i would be interested to know what locators you all use, as i have recently been having an awful lot of cup failures on jobs i did 5 years ago.

I currently buy mine from cherwells.

are there any alternatives to these? They are the simplefix type

mod-edit please post in the correct forum

Used to fit signs for a living and never found any that last longer than yours.
They are not very uv stable and go brittle after a while so you need to change them.

You can buy brass locators if you want better longevity. I always buy my flat cut lettering from Accent signs and they have an option to supply with brass locators instead of the usual nylon locators that most use.

As already said – 5 years is about the lifespan of the nylon (female) part.

Not seen them last much more than 7 years outside to be honest without cracking when subjected to load (wind / impact / removal).

If you are called in to do a ‘fix’ – just do them all. They are pretty cheap if you buy hundreds at a time.

    Thanks for the info guys.

Firstly I am new here, I noticed my post was moved by a ‘mod’ to the general signs.

My query was to do with cut letter so I put it in the routering section, is that not correct? as locators refer only to routered shapes and letters?

I don’t use brass locators as the only hold to the letter is the glue, so sometimes the shearing action is too much for the glue.

I have just spoken to SNAPFIX seen their advert in a sign mag, they told me their products are lifetime guaranteed, being both frost and UV resistant, so looks as if I may go down that root, although I will have to change the males on most jobs.

They told me the cup is made of alchethene, not polypropolene like simplefix

    all interesting stuff.
