  • 380mm Sprocketted Vinyl – Suppliers?

Posted by John Cooper on 9 September 2008 at 15:22

I just spoke to Print1 who supply various foils for the Gerber Edge. They only supply vinyls in either white or clear.

Are Spandex the only alternative? I’d like a black vinyl.

    Cheers

    Thanks guys.

Hi Fred, do you have experience of using any of the metallics on dark vinyls?

Someone asked if I could do gold on black – maybe not.

    Cheers

The Gerber prints metallics on dark vinyl really well.
The Foils from Print1 are great value for money. I didn’t use anything else when I had mine.

Don’t forget you can always print white first then a colour.

Most suppliers will do sprocketed, you just have to ask. Then another royalty goes into the pocket of Charlie Dobson. (the only person I know that has patented a hole!) :lol1:

That was a question worth asking 🙂 Here I was thinking Spandex was my only alternative! Gerber do seem to ‘wrap-up’ their products, foils, cutters and software.

Presumably these vinyls are okay in the heat process of the Gerber printer?

Nick, if you’re a gerber user, how accurate is the the printing? Laying down a white and then printing on top would need accuracy so the white doesn’t show at the edges.

Thanks for all the input guys.

just use white vinyl, and print the black. then overlay the gold/silver/chrome

if you do need to print onto black laydown white or silver first to create a mask. as for registration, you need to make the white slightly smaller than the actual image, that way it will not be seen

Just to explain to those who wonder what is special about a hole, Nothing,
it is the iregular spacing that has the patent, a very clever idea at the time to restrict other suppliers getting in on the gerber market.

Buy a gerber and only gerber approved products…….

    Hi John,

Have used silver/chrome from print one onto black came out spot on.
I was on about standard foils which will not come out the same as printing onto white and lighter colours.

    Thanks Fred, great help.

The metallic foils must be quite dense I guess.

Glad to see you haven’t disappeared into the black hole. You & I might be the only forum members in existence just now. I do feel a bit dizzy though.

    Cheers
