    Hi,
We have just had an email, from a customer, saying that the magnetic signs that we supplied him with have now started to blister badly (200 on each sign) they were and have been up till now perfect. Any ideas why this would happen, I take great care to squeegee out the water, yes they are applied wet, and have never known this to happen before. We sell a great deal of magnetics and I am now ever so slightly concerned.

    hi Martin,

what brand of mag is it?

i’m about to take serious issue with safe-mag when my supplier gives me their details and a contact name.

i made some mags, the customer painted the body colour (professionally), i then applied letting and a clear laminate to protect the paint.

he took the care sheet away, and removed them at least weekly to clean as instructed. after a month or two he contacted me to say there were bubbles, a week or two later and the bubbles were gone, but small craters were left. i never got a chance to see them until the other day, when i went to try and remove the mags which became seriously stuck after a week of very hot weather last month.

they were welded on! but i did notice, when pulling the factory white skin from the mag backing, the white layer was coated black, same as the mag sheet, but there were small area’s, up to half an inch, where the white was clearly visible, immaculately round & clean.

this suggests to me that either glue was not placed there, or more likely, that the backing sheet was contaminated before the white skin was applied, therefore the glue did not stick, resulting in a minute area of air which swells in hot weather, when it cools, it leaves neat little craters.

i’ll upload the pics from my phone later to show ya’ll what it was like (plenty of evidence at least!) and what the mag has done to the paintwork. it really needs a thread of it’s own!

    Hi Hugh,
I have just looked at the magnets I have done for my car, one not all of them have bubbles, I sliced through with the scalpel and yes there is the black backing you spoke of, I have pulled back my graphics and the surface of the magnetic sheet has bubbled, I am glad to see that it is not down to my workmanship. Now I am worried!

I use Arnold magnetic and had a customer complaining that the magnetic had welded itself to the vehicle, apparently they had been left on some weeks and looking at the care sheet they should come off virtually every day.

They do say in hot weather they should be removed every day.
