    Hi

We have just bought an R2100 with a permajet CIS system for £30 🙂 I’m just cleaning the print heads as one is blockedo. We will be using it for silk and metal work.

I have a few questions after reading on here

Do I need transfer paper such as from magigtouch? Or can I use Photopaper as I have read in some posts on here.

If I want to subli print on to metal does it need a coating? (print in reverse on paper than heat on) I have been told that I can use uncoated metal but will need to varnish etc after.

    Best place for sublimation ink?

For cloth I gather I just need a material with a Poly content?

Thanks as always for your help

    Hi

You can use normal inkjet paper, not sure how good the results will be though.
Dye Sub always needs a polyester surface to go onto, so you may get a partial transfer onto metal but nothing reliable.
You can buy coated Aluminium from some of the Sublimation suppliers, do a search on the Internet.

    Hope that helps

Can I transfer on to plain metal? Or does it need a coating? If so what is the coating as I need custom sizes. I have been told that I can dye sub on to plain metal and then varnish, is that correct?

Just found out you can if you use a lazer printer, if you use ink jet you need the metal coated.

You NEED to have a polyester surface for dye sublimation to work.

it might be worth doing a bit of research before you jump in and start using expensive ink and blanks……….go into the dye sub section ofthe boards.

Dye sub has a huge number of variables that all affect the finished product.

I have found a coating that you apply to what ever you want to subli on to. We are only doing B&W prints on to the metal

That product has been discussed in depth on a t shirt forum, sublimation section……….it produced mixed results as it was difficult to get an even coating……….the fumes are quite toxic and breathing equipment was reccomended when spraying it.

I have never tried it or indeed seen it used.

Most of the sublimation suppliers will cut coated metal blanks to a required size……..

    Thanks for the reply

If I can get the correct material cut that would be great

    Do you have any recomendations?

    Thanks

i would ‘google’ sublimation suppliers and contact each and ask for a brochure and prices…….I then placed a small order with each to see what kind of service I got……..customer service varied wildly 😮 and that was just trying to order and get the order delivered…….
I don’t do a lot of sublimation….some of the others who do may be able to offer more advice.
