Trying to source Wall Vinyl.
Hi guys,
I remember seeing a post about wall vinyl and someone had posted a photo of their work with a sea urchin shell image?? i cant find the thread and have tried advanced search as well.I need to know if wall vinyl can be printed with eco solvent inks (roland sp540) and if there are different types?
I have been asked to quote for a wall that is plastered and smooth and another wall which is rendered and quite rough! Is there a vinyl that can cope with rough walls or are we better putting up some plaster board or forex??
I also would like some input from people who have used the various options vinyl or digital wall paper on how they printed? and how they were to apply?

Not sure on inks, but I would look at cladding both the smooth and rough walls. The main failure point will be between the plaster and the painted surface. i.e. if the vinyl is to come off it will do so because the paint has not bonded well with the wall.

Dan… Today I mounted a print(1,2 x 2 m) using MD3 to a wall. The wall was in pretty good shape and the job looks good. But I’m a little uncertain how well the corners are going to hold seeing the I could rip the print from the wall relatively easy. Maybe it takes these adhesive a couple of hours to achieve it’s maximum power (Haven’t really worked with Metamark’s MD series before)

Correct me if I wrong but didn’t you cover a couple of indoor walls with AVERY EZ1004? I’m supposing that the corner haven’t lifted yet? -
lee’s correct, mactac have released a vinyl that can be applied directly to a clean brick wall without adhesion problems.
i have just requested prices for the new oracal decorative wall paper vinyl.
comes in lots of nice shades and colours. can be cut like any other vinyl. the adhesive apparently is like a "post-it" so can be lifted and re-laid if slightly out…

You guys are now talking about a color vinyl not a print one. Do anyone of you happen to know if they have a print media with that adhesive.

I need a printable vinyl or wall paper, not a solid colour vinyl!

the link was to solid colour but i am almost 100% there is the digital white equivalent.
the mactac stuff for the brick walls is digital also.

Lee I know you used 1004 EZ on a job. Why did you choose to use it? Was it because of it adhesive properties or for the fact that it was bubble free?

When I get into the office on tomorrow I’ll dig out the flyer I received. It was definitely printable media.
To answer your other question Simon yep we’ve applied a lot of Avery 1005 EZ to inside walls. Mind you they are smooth and none has come off yet. I’ll post up some pics of finished stuff on monday as well 😀

I’ve found with all the reusable medias I’ve used that the manufacturer recommended a white border around the graphic of it will fail. I’ve had a few test jobs already curl up using a few of these reusable films.
If anyone else has any ideas on this let me know.
