  how are pop up displays made?

  Hi all,

  I have been asked by my girlfriend to do some new panels for a pop up display for the company she works for.

  I’ve never had anything to do with these so I suggested it might be a better idea for her to get them from the original supplier but they want over £150 for each drop (they need 3 per pop up).

  I was wondering how the panels are made? I have seen the ones they currently have and they seem to be very thick. I know I can get some stuff from AllPrint (TSFP12) which looks to be a print and hang type material without the need for laminating. Is this correct? Also, does anyone know where to get the locators/hangers for the back of the panels?

  Hi John

  If you’ve never done a pop up system before steer well clear. Refurbs are even harder than factory fresh units! You print on blockout Opaljet material (heavyweight for centre panels and lightweight for the ends) then you have to overlaminate them with Sandtex or similar. If you don’t overlaminate them they won’t last, regardless of the manufacturers claims, mostly due to poor handling by clients. Colour consistency between panels is cruicial. You get the plastic top and bottom panels from the original manufacturer (and there are loads to choose from). Either try and experienced pop-up printer or (for £150/drop) the original supplier is not overpriced.

  You will need to get the supplier of the popup for those hanger things or make them yourself again out of some thin plastic.

  We do our pop up panels using the plastic that comes with the popup with a sandtex laminate. You will need a javelin or a good ruller to be able to cut the panels square and straight or they won’t line up.

  You will also need magnetic strips for the new panels. You might want to find a supplier of popup display stands and buy all these from them.

  150 pounds doesn’t seem like they are charging alot for the new panels. We’d be charging the same.

  Thanks for the quick replies! It’s interesting to know that those prices are competitive. I am keen to try this as I can do this one on the cheap as a ‘favour’ and use it to practice on. I’d like to start doing pop-ups if it works out.

  Does anyone have any experience of the Allprint media?

  Also, does anyone know of a good trade supplier of pop ups and roll ups (have been asked to do some of these too)?
