Banner material running off
OK I usually print 6ft long banners without a problem but when I’m printing over that the banner tends to run off……. does anyone have any useful tips to maybe stop this….. I’m only talking about an inch off but that inch is enough to put the banner in danger of turning me into the Hulk at 9ft of a 10ft banner :lol1:
I’ve tried, locking the clamps at the back so that the media can’t move and also rolling the banner material to the floor so it’s not being pulled through but still getting this problem

skewing is to do with tensioning the material before the manual clamps, should then run smooth.
If anything john, I suspect your just a bit too cramped in that place.

When I load my Roland I always leave some slack in the sliding flange at the back, then come round to the front and pull the material with finger & thumb in the middle and make sure it is square ( I have drawn a mark on the right hand side of the platern that is in line with the right flange) then close clamps.
I never use media clamps and have never run off with material, 3 weeks ago i printed 2 banners one 17M long and the other 12 M long used most of 30m roll with no issue.
If you have run off at 6 feet then bad loading is most likely, spend some time and mark platern where edge of material should sit it can help alot.

I’ve just printed a couple of 3m banners with very little run off, I just made sure the material was loaded in line and had settled before clamping.
I use the short media clamps and also pull the material off the roll first as my banner material seems to be stuck to the roll so it stops the printer.Steve

I have only ever pulled material off the roll once and could not get it to reroll properly so never bothered again, my printer never stops with tight material i had a 30m roll of 1.8 M wide heavy duty banner on there last week, so heavy could hardly lift onto printer and every time printer advanced media it sounded like a soft drum beat but this has never caused any problems.

I always trim the banner material first with a steel square, then line up the square edge with the cutting groove on the machine. Glad to say I haven’t done any banners longer than 12 foot.

I had this with the SP. Turn your heaters down.
What printer are you printing with? Our XJ has far superior media handling abilities and we’ve done 30+ metres of banner without any tracking issues.
