Does anyone know how to make a mask in Corel or Photoshop?
Posted by Paul Humble on 11 August 2008 at 13:04Im trying out The Magic Touch’s WoW 7.1 transfer paper. I need to make the image a mask but cant for the life of me figure out how to do this. TMT do a piece of software that has a mask feature but its £500 and I dont want to buy it before seeing if I like the paper.

a mask is easy, but not sure how or why you need it for tmt stuff, can you explain a little more?

i haven’t used the stuff but that mask i think could be created in PS if bitmap or X3/4 boundary command if vector

Paul,
if you have x3, then you could use the cutout lab to create a mask around the object(s) you need to keep. then copy the mask and paste as a new image, reverse the mask and fill with black reverse again and delete the object, apart from maybe adding a couple of reg marks, that should do the job, from what I can see of tmts videoPeter

Sorry I don’t know how to do the mask but we do have the magic hands software. the mask is printed out in black on to good quality laser paper and is used in the weeding process well sort of it seems to bond to the coating on the mt paper and hen you strip it it peels the coating from the mt sheet.
I know what I am trying to say but not sure if I can make it plain enough to understand. If needed I will try again.

Thanks for the help guys, I think ive managed it in Photoshop last night (X3 is on my works computer).
Ill have a go when I get to the office and post the results.

Well, finally managed to do a test piece after figuring out the mask. The paper itself is very clever, but its a long winded process.
The results are good, but I wouldnt like to do alot of them just because of the time involved.

What heatpress did you use for this?

Paul, what are the real benefits of the new system do you think?

Im not quite sure if im honest. I can achieve similar results using Inkjet Dark from Xpres on basic designs, but the WoW 7.1 does feel alot smoother and the print feels less rubberised than the Inkjet Dark.
On really complicated single unit designs for dark garments the WoW will be quicker and easier to set up, but the cost is twice that of the Xpres stuff.
Im undecided at the moment. Theres no doubting its a very clever piece of kit, but im not convinced the customer would pay the extra it costs me to produce.
