  • are Mini Stripes factory supplied easy to fit?

    Hi All

I have some mini stripes to fit in the morning, they are supplied by BMW in kit form. Has anybody fitted these before and are they easy enough to do? How do they come prepared?

    cheers

    I know Peter’s the mini pro 😉

It’s a full kit, bumper to bumper and over the roof 😉 I am more worried about the 2 stripes turning in on the front of the bonnet towards each other and not staying straight. I have only ever done viper stripes once before when I first started in signs and it was on my own vehicle and took a few tries to get it right 😳

    Warren,
if its the new style mini It’s easier than the old style as the bonnet doesnt have such a bump, and is in one piece without the separate wiper box panel
I find the easiest way is mark the centre of the stripes on the app tape first, than align with a line than has been placed between the mini badge and the centre of the screen. Tape the stripes on the outside edge on the flat part of the bonnet, then split them down the middle and apply separately.

the roof I do in a similar manner, but make sure you put the little comma to the rear!

You could always do them wet if you are unsure, that is how the mini manual recommends fitting,
    🙁
and the recomended time is 1.5 hours

Never ever done it in less than 3 though, including prep.

There are a few differences in removing trim between the old and new style, both are easy, but if you haven’t done it before get the dealer to do it. if the job is not for a dealer, give me a pm and I will try to explain
The kit comes in one piece, app tape applied, on 1220 wide material.
two rows each labeled as to where they fit, cut over length but not by much

    Hi Peter

Thanks for that, it is with a dealer and am not 100% sure if it is a new or older shape as they are a repair centre so I think it is to go on to a mini that has just had some work done on it.

I presume then that they come with the application tape on it then 😕

Hopefully the trim will still be off otherwise I will get them to take it all off.

    Thanks for the tips :thumbup2:

    cheers

done loads of viper stripes on various cars, not the mini tho, but if it is factory supplied, they are normally really easy to fit with markers already cut into the application tape…they are generally made in mind that the anyone should be able to fit them!

Just a thought Warren, if its a repair job check out where they painted and how long its been cured!

As for the vipers, never done one, but one of the guys who was on the wrapping course I was on reckoned they were a real pig to fit! He mentioned the bonnet bumps that peter described on the earlier models 😮

done quite a few vipers for Chrysler Jeep, the most pig of a bit to fit is definitely the air scoop in the bonnet.

Well the kits were great actually and went on p1ss easy and only took 1.5 hours. All pre-cut, trimmed around badges and had cut lines for the ends of the roof.

    very well put together kit.

    Thanks for the tips all.

:lol1: I know, and was happy to hear it too 😉 He initially told me it was a full kit from bumper to bumper but he was only guessing 😕 made my life easier and quicker to fit so a nice easy job for 9am Monday morning 😎

Never done one of those, the usual vipers go each side of the badge,
