    Hi !
I was wondering what you guys use when a customer wants a print to be applied to their walls? Any special vinyl?

    Cheers,
    Simon

Avery do a new one that is especially made for applying to acrylic painted walls.

Used it last week, goes on very well, but only monomeric, so no good for anything other than flat surfaces.

Otherwise, try wallpaper. Its all the rage here at the moment.

    Hope that helps 😛

Shane did you use the Avery MPI 2061 Wall Graphic Film 152 micron?

    What’s the monomeric wall vinyl?

This is the stuff Simon, the same stuff Jason has refered to.

Yes Jason, thats the stuff, my mistake I thought it was monomeric, but its polymeric.

I was probably talking during class when we discussed the product in detail 😳

I used to get in trouble at school for the same thing 😕

We use Avery 1005 EZ to do wall graphics. But you do need to pre paint the wall in gloss first…

This wall is 8 Metres long and 3.4 M high. The EZ vinyl went up as smooth as silk with no bubbles and will be easy to replace as the displays change.

    HI Jason,

Yeah we laminate most of our printed stuff…Our supplier didn’t have Avery in stock, so on this job we used Arlon Matt laminate Which looked great.

Here area couple of other walls from the same job.

    Hi Lee!
    Great stuff!!!
I have one question! How much overprint do you leave in the parts that are mounted, 5 mm ?
    Thanks!

This was a trade job mate…I don’t want to put the amount charged for all to see, but I charge what it’s worth to make a good quid and to be happy to fix up mistakes.

There were a few other bits, but this was in the 20K region

**Edit** Sorry bud, I leave 20 mm "Bleed" top and bottom and 10mm overlap.

    I get you completely Lee!!
I wrote that and posted it, and as soon as I did it I tried to edit the part of the prize out but it seems that you got me to it.
Thanks for the info any ways!
    Cheers!

Does anyone here happen to know If Avery’s 1005 EZ works for applying on to wood panels such as the ones that are on the changing rooms in clothe stores?

Simon have they got a clear varnish like a gloss etc? Or are they raw timber?

If the area is smooth and coated then I’d say go for it 🙂

I’m always applying to things like Melamine just has to be a non porous surface, and really really smooth.

The thing I like about this vinyl i that I don’t have to carry lots of different vinyls in stock I just use my car wrapping vinyl to do most things.

see the attached pictures on the above link. all done using Metamark MD5. No real need to use 1005 ez, a cheaper vinyl will do as it'[s flat panel work. use a matt laminate, stops as many dirty finger marks showing.

    Hi Jason!
I believe that all have a clear varnish but some of them have a rougher texture. They are more "beaten down" wood, the others are soft.

Lee I’m guessing then that according to you I should check the surface before I try to sell it! Sounds fear enough! By the way do you use an airgun to apply the slightly roughen/uneven parts?

    Thanks for the tip Ian!
Did you have to prepare the wood surface any more than to clean it before applying the vinyl?
Ps. was all vinyl applied on to a wood surface or did you happen to use the MD5 for applying on to walls as well?

MD5 on everything, i find it’s a very good all round vinyl with no shrinkage. Just prep the laminate as you would any other surface.

i try to get the backpanels done with a laminate backpanel if possible.
If not get them to prep the walls with unibond, and use either use an eggshell/satin vinyl paint or Gloss paint. make sure it’s smoothly painted with no dust under the paint..

I have tried a bit of Metamark Ian, but I’ve never removed it…Does it come off cleanly?

I ask with a small shudder, ad I wrapped my vehicle in this vinyl late year 😀 and I want to update the look.
