  • is it possible to print onto white self-cling?

Posted by M Brown on 21 July 2008 at 15:46

    Hi all,

I’m getting my new solvent printer installed tomorrow and I have a job that I have to do. Its for 5000 self cling stickers. What I need to know is, can you print on white self cling in reverse and will it still cling to inside of glass windows to be viewed from the other side, or will the solvent ink make it not cling?

    Would love your comments

    Thanks

    From Mark

    Mark,
I think it was Shane from OZ mentioned in a post last week that where the print is will take away the self cling characteristics of the material at that point 😮

you may wish to re think that one.

yes you can print on to most self clings, but the ink should not really go to the window, cos it sticks to it

Hi Again, Seems to be a popular problem , you can print the right way up on Penstick white and the ink side will stick to the inside of the window , the less ink coverage the better but it works fine.
Also keep your eye out for the new Conformguard opaque coming soon if you have a hot top laminator. Its the white resin transferred by the heat of the roller i mentioned before.

If it is on white why would you print in reverse? You print normal and place on inside or outside and it will work.

    Hi Peter,

Its to been seen on the outside of the window. You wouldn’t stick it on the out side of a car. It will get nicked or come off when you drive.

I think I’ll have to get a sample from a few suppliers.

    Hi Glenn,

Well I see it like this, if I use white self cling. Print on the self cling, then I wouldn’t need to laminate with white. As the printed side will cling to the glass any way on it own. The graphic doesn’t get printed all over the sticker. So there should be enough self cling without ink on to keep a good grab to the glass window

yeah sorry……I tried to edit before anyone replied

I didn’t realise sticking to the ‘other’ side was an option

    Hi Chris.

I’ll print normal way round. just print on the side that will go against the glass.

    glad we got that sorted..

    😀

warning sometimes the ink will stick to the window. so destroys the print when removed
