    Hello,
I have a job that requires 3 digital prints ( 8 foot by 4 foot) to be applied onto painted wood.

They are only for short term use and wont be laminated – is it necessary to apply application tape to the print?

    Sorry for the silly question

I would if not laminated, less chance of scratching the print

Hinge it. Use a piece of aluminum to support the sheet and you should be able to apply it dry. I do this when applying large panels on my own or outdoors.

Jason, Robert was talking application TAPE not fluid.

Another way to apply dry though, is to hinge at the top, tightly roll up the print from the bottom, and then peel the backing a few inches down from the top and hold the vinyl away from the sheet using the roll, as you squeegee from the top.

my view is to laminate reason easy fitt and app tape is £50 ish a roll anyway, so not such a big gain not to

Sorry was half asleep when I read this. Thought he meant will app taping it make it easier applying the panel.

Peter when you have 2 metres of vinyl rolled up how do you move side to side? and how do you ensure the vinyl has started flat so you don’t get tension towards the end of the sheet?

    Hi Richard

I would agree with Chris, if you can laminate it.
It will be far easier to handle and you will save yourself a lot of hassle.
If its a full colour print the ink can often make the vinyl stretchy and very difficult to fit.
