  • Advice, Vinyl adhesive appearing milky on glass?

Posted by Adrian Neill on 10 July 2008 at 10:21

    Morning everyone.

We’ve started to experience problems when applying vinyls to the rear of glass.
We’ve just stuck a load of text onto the back of some glass panels in black
but they look ‘milky’ …. almost looks as if it’s not stuck down properly ??

Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem ??

We intitialy thought it might be the glue reacting, but we’ve tried a different
grade and brand of black and it’s doing the same.

Have you ever applied black (or any dark colour) to the back of glass before? I’m not taking the piss, it’s just that dark colours often show a silvering effect when applied to glass. It usually goes away after a day or so.

Did you use application fluid of any kind?If you did it can cause this depending on the vinyl……….it will disappear as it dries.

If the vinyl is short term temp stuff it may have a water based adhesive which will do this if a water based app fluid is used.
Also, washing up liquid in water as an app fluid will do it.
