We regularly print specials if we can’t find an exact match – Either by mixing ink and screenprinting if large volumes are required or digital print if only a few metres needed. We would than laminate with gloss or matt laminate depending on finish required.
However we would always ask for the "coated" Pantone match not uncoated as it is incompatible with vinyl printing – Uncoated colours are almost impossible to match on vinyl as they are representing uncoated paper printing (such as newspaper, packaging board, standard A4 printer paper etc) and how the ink "soaks" into the paper – The colour therefore changes quite dramatically from that on coated paper where the ink will sit on top of the paper in the same way when you print on vinyl. The effect gets worse the darker the shade of colour. If your customer can’t grasp the matt effect on coated stock I would show him a pantone swatch on the correct colour with half laminated with a small piece of matt laminate.
