Best materials for butchers blackboards?
Posted by Peter Dee on 30 June 2008 at 07:22I have been asked for some wall mounted blackboards in a butchers shop.
They want some permanent vinyl graphics on it plus the ability to use chalkboard markers for special offers etc.
I’m looking for ideas & suggestions as to what materials to make these from.Peter Dee replied 17 years, 6 months ago 5 Members · 9 Replies -

You could use chalk board vinyl from doro or hexis and apply to whatever substrate best suits, this takes vinyl lettering just fine.

Peter,
I’ve used a laminate, as in formica type material, bonded onto 9mm mdf/chipboard/good quality plywood. The material is very flat and works well with chalk pens but less so with ordinary chalk, unless the chalk is a bit damp.
I used to buy from Robert Horne, sheet size 1220 x 2440 -
The last butcher shop we fitted out had to have white boards and markers because the HSE in their infinite wisdom think blackboards and chalks are unhygienic.

Yes I’m fending off the chalk idea in favour of the blackboard vinyl which Gavin mentioned.

Peter,
I tried the chalk board vinyl, and with chalk pens particularly, it was not nearly as good. The hard surface of the laminate was far superior.Steve

you can buy chalk board vinyl and dry wipe vinyl from Metamark.
I bought some recently. we had staffing boards to make that had to have a section that could be written on amongst some permanent text, logos etc so we had a section covered in dry wipe vinyl and bought a pack of assorted colours of dry wipe markers from WH Smith i think… worked a treat…
