Vehice Wrap: Melton Youth Services
Posted by Jason Xuereb on 27 June 2008 at 10:50Hey guys,
We did this the last few days. Spent our time on it.
Kris spent a lot of time with me on this job. So hopefully he learnt a bit from it.
Material is Arlon DP6000X with a matching over laminate.
3M Scotch lite reflective cut on the doors.
Thanks

lol cheers guys.
What happened with this job is they had their own design. But in the quoting process they wanted to see what areas of the vehicle were going to get covered. So I used that file and over layed it on the vehicle. The version I have has the pic as well from the same person on istock.
After they saw that image they wanted that design.
Can’t stand knee pads either. My knees take a battering because I’m always in shorts.
We’re pretty happy with our install and the project as a whole.

Great Job Jason,
Is the one way vision (OWV) laminated? If so how do you seal the edges?
My next job, I’m going to try 3M edge sealer instead of a taped edge.
Also, I’m told by a Melbourne client that the police in Victoria are looking at making one way vision on side glass illegal, especially those behind the front doors.
Have you heard anything?
I know a signwriter was sued in Melbourne recently after the driver had an accident, and her insurance company took the sign shop to court, claiming the OWV was a contributing factor in the accident. The sign shop lost the case.
Ive been advised that its a good idea to get the client to sign a waiver before they take delivery of a vehicle with OWV, accepting full responsibility for the signage and waiving any claims in case of an accident.
I’ve also been told that some insurance companies in australia will no longer cover the cost of signage if a vehicle is damaged and need resigning.
My own van has been insured, but it does not cover any signs, if the vehicle needs to be resprayed. Apparently with the popularity of wraps, and the associated expense, insurance companies are not prepared to pay the prices being charged.
Is your situation the same down there?
Good job again though.

Hey Shane,
This one way vision isn’t laminated.
I haven’t heard anything in regards to one way vision being illegal on the sides.
From when I enquired as to whether one way vision was legal or illegal it came down to this light test they use. It’s the same test they use for tinted windows.
I was also told I, we weren’t allowed to put one way vision on the drivers window or the passengers side window or the front wind screen.
It’s a really grey area and there isn’t any written documentation which states things one way or another. I rang vic roads, the police etc and couldn’t get a straight answer. I even took my car to vic roads to ask if there was any problems with my one way vision. They said they didn’t see any problems with it breaking any of the rules.
Have you got a reference to that court case?
The waiver sounds like a good thing.
We haven’t had to deal with insurance companies as of yet in terms of replacing graphics. I can see insurance companies not wanting to pay to have graphics replaced when they aren’t disclosed in the insurance process. Our cars aren’t insured with the graphics. I figure we can replace them anyways.

Forgot to mention sealing the edges. The only place I sealed on this car is on the side rear windows at the bottom so they can go up and down. I use optically clear laminate cut into strips.
Ask me in a few months and I’ll let you know how it held up.

 clear cut into strips… never thought of that…
I’ll chase it up about the OWV court case. See what I can find out.
Thanks for the reply

Hi guys,
if OWV is what I think it is! Perforated vinyl? It has been made illegal here in spain, it has been a nightmare for us! We have had clients vehicles failing their ITV (spanish mot equivalent) and coming back angry demanding refunds etc). I hope were not talking about the same stuff.
