  • how can i removing Glue from ABS Wheel Cover?

I have just removed the vinyl letters from my 4×4 ABS wheel cover, and like an idiot, started to use solvent to get the glue off. You can guess what happened, it started to melt the plastic. Is there any water based, or non solvent glue remover, or a good method of doing this. The heatgun isnt working either.

How about methylated spirit? Would have though that was ok on ABS. (dont take my word for it though, try a bit first). Its nowhere near as aggressive as some of the solvents.

I did one yesterday using acetone remove the adhesive.
    No problems at all!
The surface remained shiny, but best to test first.

    What solvent did you use?

Automotive tar & glue remover might be OK.

Thanks people. I should really have known better!! I used Tardis, which is great on paintwork, but wrecks ABS obviously.

I have now used IPA and it works a treat, but still damage on the bit I did earlier.

Oh well, at least it was not a customer.
