try http://www.1plates.co.uk its the one I use. Its £450 but is quite limited and I still prefer to design a specific show plate using LG Signs/Plates and send a JPEG to the customer first.

Ive been doing plates for about 6 months, it started out as the only thing I did but I soon realised it just wasnt practical as there is no money in it.
Its very difficult to make any money, far too time consuming, too much competition, and too many people dont fully understand what makes a numberplate legal (im DVLA registered) yet they still complain when I sell a Showplate as a SHowplate..
If you intend it to be your sole point of trading im afraid you may be in for a very big shock.

i have only been doing plates part time as i also fit aerials ,satellite and CCTV , website design and hosting, overseas property sales.
I am looking at getting some shop premises so as to consolidate everything under one roof.
which printer do you use?
what other products do recommend?Patrick

The government lets you guys produce your own number plates?
(I’m from Australia)

I use the Hilltek plates which I get from either Tennants or Advanced Radiators.
Avoid the Oki C5600, thats what I started with but it just doesnt do certain blues on acetates so I upgraded to an Oki C5800.
I started with the budget plastic jig and roller but soon realised that this wasnt really ideal so I upgraded to a £400 item from LG.
Software wise I use a mix of LG Signs/Plates and 1 plate builders web builder which I print via word.
Because I also have a plotter I back all the side badges with a colour so the yellow doesnt distort the colour. Its time consuming but the end result means people reccomend me to others.

No, to produce a legal UK plate you must be DVLA registered (which I am) and adhere to very strict guidelines. The correct font, sizing, spacing etc., must be used, the company name, postcode and BS mark must also be on the plates.
Some people who have show cars buy Showplates, this basically means that the plate can look however they want it to, but I then sell it as a sign with a disclaimer telling them not to use it on the road.
If the subsequently use it on the road I have a record of their name to show it was sold as a sign. There is a £30 fine for using Showplates on the roads.

PatrickI now use the 5600 for general Office stuff. The 5800 is solely for plates, but that isnt to say it doesnt have 1001 other uses, its just that my office is full of printers specific for certain jobs.
I know Oki do a free download that allows you to do Tax Discs, small banners, stickers etc., but I found that it wouldnt be cost effective for me to do as so many other companies do them cheaper than I can make them for so I just subcontract certain things out.
I have heard that you can use the Oki with transfer paper, but ive never tried.
