    hi all
not been about much due to heavy work load which is good.
ok i have a pc running all the bits i need to drive my cutters and printers along with a wireless router which works fine and i can connect my lap top to the wireless network to surf the web. Now due to the work i’m doing i would like to set up another pc with my design software so the old pc can really be used for the rip, so the old pc is running xp pro and the new one will be vista, can i connect these up through the wireless network so i can get to all my files, or would i be better using a network hub and connecting my external hard drive into it to access my files.

    or suggestions
    thanks for your time Rich

Rich I would go for a hub, but hard wired if you can, netgear is a good make, I have never had a problem with mine, and no problem accessing files as long as you share the folder. I wireless connection is not reliable enough to use with a large files that you dont want to loose,

I concur with my learned colleague Mr. Normington. Go for wired.

Wireless is ok for internet, although even there it can be a bit flaky sometimes, but for large image files you will need the speed of wired.

If BOTH PC’s have network sockets on the back (most modern ones do) then all you need is http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130663

If you are willing to get more adventurous and create a network then (depending on Internet connection (DSL/ADSL/Cable) ) then I use http://www.ebuyer.com/product/52244 with the same cables as above. This is a router that connects to your network, it also doubles up as a 4 port hub/switch and has wireless provision for later on when you get a laptop.

Printer… well hopefully you got something with a network socket, if not then you don’t need to have one like that.. plug in to one of the PC’s and enable print sharing.

You said you got a wireless router? which one? has it got a spare Ethernet connector? you may already have what you need except the cables.
