  • is fluorescent vinyl suitable for window graphics?

Posted by Warren Beard on 16 June 2008 at 16:47

    HI Guys

I’ve never used it so this might be a silly question but is fluorescent vinyl suitable for window graphics ie: apply on the inside to view outside? and will it last 😕 I am going to suggest a bright yellow or translucent which I think will look the dogs doo dah’s but just need to know about the suitability of the fluorescent.

    Thanks

All the fluorescents I have ever used have always had a white back, so no good for internal window use.

Give Grafityp a call, they advertise fluorescent on windows in their catalogue. Not used it to date, but would be interested in the findings.

I,ve used Grafityp florescent vinyl, that has a white back on it. Atleast it did the last time I used it they may have a different one now. I would use a bright vinyl instead as the flourescent soon fades and loses that bright sharp look where as the vinyl will look good for years. The vinyl costs less than the flourescent so more profit for you and lasts longer so better for the customer.

Same here i’m afraid all the fluoro i’ve used has a white backing and it does fade like hell if in direct sunshine (about 3 months!!)

Thanks All, I really want to get the customer to go with translucent as I know it will look good with the design they want nut I will tell them the fluorescent yellow is a no go.

    cheers

Fluorescent is only really suitable for short term or indoor use – if you put it on a window, where it is likely to be exposed to a lot of sunlight it will fade and look awful in as little as a couple of months. Most of the suppliers only rate their fluoro stuff at 6 months or so.

If customers ask for it I always try and talk them out of it, as apart from being much more expensive than normal vinyl, it will never stay looking good – have seen quite a few exterior signs done in fluoro and after time they all look patchy and faded and more like pastel than a bright colour.
