I made this last week for a Military Mess (glorified hotel). The wood and molding had to match existing boards (colour and style), yet provide the functionality required. This is a place to display a map of the locality, and a list of confirmed room bookings in two landscape acrylic pockets. The 2 x quad 1/3 fold A4 pockets are for storing keys (in envelopes) out of hours for those arriving late………..

Took a couple of days to complete allowing ample time between coats of stain and varnish. Components were from Fairfield Displays and although at the upper end of cost are of amazing quality. Thanks to the advice on other threads I purchased the Evolution sliding compound miter saw from Screwfix and its one hell of a piece of kit………did me proud on some tight mitered corners.

Might not be to every ones taste, but given the hanging location was very fitting and tied the old and new styles together.

That makes a change from typical sign work.

Would brass locators have looked better?

They probably would have looked better in brass, but the customer settled on 2 brass for the engraved top plate and satin chrome for the remainder based on cost. Once the paper is in the various holders, the chrome stand-offs seem to be less obvious giving a floating feel to the acrylic.

This project was planned via e-mail and the customer didnt quite understand the whole concept and was blown over when I delivered the finished board.

Quite a profitable job and very satisfying as I made the whole thing form raw materials. Got 2 more plain boards to make, one with gold vinyl lettering…….must have a go at gold leaf work and see how I get on.
