Newbie Subli!!!
Posted by Paul Humble on 19 May 2008 at 20:25Ive just taken delivery of my new Subli Printing setup today from Xpres. Heat press and Mug press, 2 epson printers and a Roland cutter aswell as plenty of bits and bobs for me to practice on.
I must say, I am extremely impressed with the engineer Matt, who spent the day with me explaining how everything worked.
Im looking forward to learning a little more about it all soon.

Nice one 🙂
Best tip I can give, is write everything down – time, temp etc. Unless you are way out, most things look 1/2 decent, but once you crack it you’ll get the "WOW" when you open the press.
Be a cheapskate, if you are doing say mouse mats, cut one into 4 till you are happy with it all.
Its a bit like riding a bike or driving a car, seems complicated, awkward and hit & miss at first but then afterwards you wonder what all the fuss was about ! -
190 degrees for 50 seconds is about usual for anything dye sub, depending on the dwell times xpres give you they can be WAY out, I have been doing it 3 years now and had to find out the hard way as Xpres had a list of dwell times that didn’t correspond whatsoever to the substrates.
Providing your equipment is giving the correct reading then the above times should be fine, sublimation transfers (the a4 sheets) for 35 seconds, Mugs 3 minutes all the same temp.
Make sure you use the correct profile for your ink/printer and youll be churning them out in no time.
One handy hint is go to a haberdashery and buy a metre or so of polyester, the satin shiny stuff is best, and practice on that, buy a box of coasters also as they are the cheapest way of getting stuff wrong, at 15 quid for 40.
Good luck -
Well I tried it today before doing a van and I love it. Its really clever stuff, I am a licensed Koolart distributor so I churned out a few Koolart mugs and a couple of mugs as gifts for a local bodyshop who basically showed me how to apply vinyl.

Excellent.
Glad you like it, when it works dye sub is great -
Ive had my first Subli problem (is that a Probli?). I was printing my own logo onto a teeshirt designed for subli printing, it is a numberplate with some red brush script writing running through it.
The print looked fine on paper but when pressed the black was greenish and the red was orange. Im using the colour profile Xpres set for me and it works superb on everything but fabric.

Not sure on the xpres system but usually it SHOULDNT look fine on paper. The symptoms you describe sound like the colour profile isnt set up right. Very odd though that it seems to print right on everything else!

I probably phrased it wrong. By fine, I mean the black looks black, and the red looks red (but faded) on the paper.

Odd, what time/temp are you using? Do you have anything else made from fabric such as a mouse mat that you can try?

May be a good idea to get Xpres Tech Support to dial in and check all your settings are ok, you can reach them on MSN
