    Hi All,

What other programs will open an EPS file. I have nearly every graphics package going but I’m having a problem opening an EPS file sent from a customer. Or I’ll have to bloody digitize it all over agian.

Try placing the EPS in a empty file. That works sometimes with broken EPS’s.

Adobe Illustrator should be able to open any EPS file, asuming it’s not broken. If the file doesn’t contain any images or raster effects you can open it with notepad and see if you can trim off any dodgy stuff since EPS is saved as a textbased, human readable format.

I have run into these problems when we have received eps files and some ai files before we updated to CS3. Some of the problems are that some design firms don’t save into a previous version of the file format before sending. Most likely because they don’t think about the fact that people can’t open a later version of a file without having updated software. I agree with Tobias. Sometimes you can trick the line art out of a file. You’ll just have to play around. I have successfully transmogrified some files by replacing the file append with a different. append. I think that Acrobat Pro or Ghostscript might be able to handle the .ps / .eps file for you. Or you could find a way to get the file to one of us here and we could convert it back to a previous version / alternative file format.
