  • How do you deal with locks and handles which are convex?

    Hi

First post and bravely posting our first partial wrap we did the other week. We wrapped the front doors and the back doors as far as the vinyl cut Subaru Rally logo.

We are sign company and have been doing vehicle graphics since the we began 3 years ago. Over the years we’ve dabbled in paneling areas etc and have had to do small amounts of simple wrapping but this is probably the biggest thing we’ve done to date.

My question is: How do you deal with locks and handles which are convex?

I’ve dealt with rivets before but these are much bigger and what we’ve been doing to date is making a template and removing the vinyl that would overlap so that the lock pokes through the hole.

As you can see from the pictures I’m having a dabble in case it crops up again soon.

    Cheers

    Tom

That example vinyl piece you used makes it hard.

You need a larger piece of vinyl. Place your vinyl right over the keyhole. Apply the vinyl away from the key hole. If you try apply vinyl going into the keyhole your vinyl will gather and you will get creases. By applying away from the keyhole the vinyl over the keyhole should be taught no wrinkles.

Now what you want to do is cut a small circle over the key hole. Then slightly cut a bigger one so the vinyl is no longer being tensions by the key hole. Then start applying the vinyl towards the keyhole. You should only have a few cms of vinyl to get done and you can get the excess vinyl towards the hole you cut out.

    I hope this makes sense.
