    Hi all,

Ive just brought a Graphtec CE5000-60 Vinyl Cutter (24inch) which I have been told would be a good starter cutter for my business. However I am trying to find the best prices for stock on the web but due to my lack of knowledge on the range of products and prices per metre, I am finding it very difficult to commit to buying anything.

I know the rules state that its not wise to ask these type of questions, but will I find the answers I need if I subscribe to this website as a member? and in your experience could you suggest which one would be the best solution for me at this stage? (gold, silver, bronze, uksg)

I want good reliable products that are competitivley priced, will make a good return on the job, and will not damage my reputation as a vinyl artist.

Your only as good as your last job and I want all my last jobs to be the best I can make it.

    Advice much appreicated.

    Kind Regards

    Joph

Definitely recommend going for the full whack and pay for UKSB membership. I spent a year on the bronze level and wished Id made the move sooner. With paid membership comes access to discounted suppliers and the ability to ask more probing questions in closed forums!!!

    Anyhoo, welcome to the boards

    Hi Joph,
As Graeme has said the full membership is well worth it. You will recoup your membership fee within a short while from the discounted suppliers. I was a bronze member but didn’t want to lay out for full membership now looking back I wish I’d done it sooner. Best thing I ever did was find this site. 2nd best thing was buy full membership. Better stop praising to much or the price will be put up. :lol1:

Pretty much all the modern vinyl ranges are good. Hexis, MacTac, KPMF, MetaMark, Oracal are all good and fairly similarly priced.

Find a supplier that will offer a good service and when you start doing more work ask for a discounted rate.

Jon missed 3M and Avery from his list. 😀

Bear in mind that, even for vinyls of the same quality, it’s not just about price. There are lots of other factors to consider.

For instance, paying a few pence more per metre for a material that is easier and quicker to weed might save you lots of time (and therefore money) over a cheaper one.

You guys have been really helpful thanks muchly 😀

I really appreciate the feedback. Its nice to know that there are people out their who actually want to share the knowledge instead of keeping it for themselves.

All early days for me I suppose but I just need to get the experience in now. Its all about trial and error. The design side of things are a piece of cake, but its no point having a good design if the end result looks crap.

Which is better Paper or Clear Application tape?

Do any of you use a Light box?

    many thanks

Paper application tape most of the time. Clear tends to ruckle up a bit if left for any time. I use paper 99% of the time and only use clear for overlaying graphics so I can see what I’m doing.

Thanks Steve thats great, much appreciated. So 1 layer/colour use paper, multiple Layers/colour use the clear stuff? Gotcha :lol1:

    makes perfect sense…

    cheers

You can multi layer with paper as well I just find it easier with clear. I only make them up shortly before using them if using clear as it forms waves if left a while lifting letters of backing paper. If you had a lightbox you probably would be able to do it fine with paper.
