can anyone tell me what a gobo is please?
Posted by Graeme Speirs on 1 April 2008 at 18:40a client I deal with initially asked for quotes for some banners, she has now come back as her boss has asked for some "gobos"? I don’t have a scooby what these are and a google search hasnt really helped! Does any of you experts out there have experience of such a product. I can only assume its some form of promotional display along the lines of a banner?
cheers

gobo is the lens/filter made up to cover the lens of a powerful projector.
from memory its a thin aluminum disc. lets say the batman logo is cut from a circle and placed over the lens of a projector and pointed at the clouds. the logo would then be projected/seen on the clouds.
again, from memory its made from metal or whatever to prevent it being destroyed by the heat of the lamp in the projector.
i think you get them in other materials also… some maybe glass filters to make up coloured logos and the like…if you ever want to have a projection of something put on a wall or the like, gobo’s are normally the pricey part of the setup. but there are ways around that…
sorry for the rough explanation… π³ :lol1:

Hi Graeme
Rob is correct but they have to be fit inside a specially adapted spot light, I had an enquiry from a customer a while back so that is how I know what they are, you can actually buy the units from Ikea and come with a standard pattern but for a customised one you need to get them made up.
Although the job never went ahead I had a great response from these guys and can recommend them for that reason only.

The guys I dealt with is James
Hope that helps

I remember I once played a joke on a builder who was doing some work for me. I told him my architect had specified that he should use a "Brafur" when he erected the timber frame he was constructing.
The next day he came back to me and said "I hate to have to ask you Phill, but what’s a "Brafur"?
For holding titties up I said π
