that is how it works how else would you get print from a 12mm wide ribbon

sorry explained problem wrongly! say i print a green square 5cm by 5cm my finished print would end up being 5 cyan lines approx 2mm thick and 5 yellow
lines again 2mm thick, it seems not to be printing the the full ribbon band width -
print a 1 inch sq black box and tell me what happens
it prints in 8mm lines
also make of ribbon and vinyl usedchris

Chris,
it has printed 3 lines of black 1mm thick and 7mm apart and a final line about 1/2 mm thick, the inks are RENOWN X CHANGE CARTRIDGES AND RIBBON , they are from a company called printone, they came with the pc60 as i only purchased it a couple of wks ago from ebay. The vinyl is avery permanent white. -
the head is either dirty or faulty, it should have printed several 8mm wide solid lines.
did you see this printing correctly before purchase.on the left side of the print bed is a cleaning pad which of cause should be spotless. the head cleans its self before picking up a ribbon.

Chris,
the printer was printing in 8mm solid lines when i first tried it , but it was banding, thus prompting to clean with a cotton wool bud. -
i am not a lover of the print one refills but they have got there uses, on my machine they leave a thin residue that looks just like a bit of skin.
most of my stuff is done with genuine roland ribbons as i cant be doing it twice.the avery should be fine but if you have another make try it, my choice is oracal 751c or image perfect 5700. mactak9800.
in the hand book is about the cleaning paper. but you can use good quality uncoated paper.

just to add what chris has said. I also had trouble using printone ribbons but only after a head change, if i did a long run what looked like a thin wax was coming of the ribbon this then ended up on the face of the head and caused also sorts of problems. I then went back to using only Roland ribbons you may save on some jobs using the refills but to get the print done once is always cheaper and even more so on a pc60

hi sorry,
for being sporadic, i am based near hull, spending lots of time on the phone at the mo trying to set things up. and i really appreciate your input maybe one day i can give advise, lol, cos if i wasnt lol i would be tearing my hair out… as for the ribbons these are what came with and untill i can get this hump of metal to work, then i will consider the roland brand, i have spoke to their tech guys and they gave me a tel no of a roland servicer -

Use the automatic print head clean button – and ensure the print head cleaning pad is changed regularly.
There is also a special lint free pen tool containing alcohol which can be used to clean the head

hi claire another thing that helps, always clean your vinyl with isoproponol as dirt on substrate can cause head damage and uneven prints 😀

one more thing:
is that ribbon maybe used and removed to begin again /or few meters/
