How do I cut using registration marks on the cadet please?
Posted by Jason Bagladi on 28 March 2008 at 13:04Just got my Cadet up and running. Everything seems to be going well but I have a small problem.
I can print and cut from CorelDraw via Versaworks but how do I cut only by detecting registration marks?
Most of my work I need to print, laminate then cut.
Any help greatly received.Jase

in versa works you need to add reg marks and select print only, then take out laminate and put back in printer go to rip and select cut only
job done

Thanks Richard, but can’t find where the print registration marks option is in Versaworks.

hi click on the job
go down to markselect crop marks
then go to cut controls and select print only
change this back when your all laminated and select cut only

So when I reload after printing with crop marks and cut only, the cadet will look for the crop marks.

It should. Remember to load it correctly with the rectangle to the front right, a you look at the machine.

OK, what am I doing wrong? When I reload the laminated vinyl, where should I position it for the ‘eye’ to pick the registration marks?
First time I tried it, everything went smooth, but now the printer indexes the vinyl before searching and misses the crop marks every time!! -
place the cutting knife directly over the black circle on the right hand side adjacent to the black rectangle.
And .. remember to press the "base point button" 😕

How to Print/laminate/cut using versaworks and the versacamm sp300v or sp540v.
1) Open print & cut job in versa works and setup the job as usual profile size etc.
2) From the MARK tab on job settings enable the CROP MARK box.
3) Under the Cut CONTROL tab select PRINT ONLY.
4) Print the job.
Sometimes it is worth enabling the CENTRE ON MEDIA function for laminating jobs to aid in aligning on the laminator.
After the print has finished feed out approx 150mm of media before sheet cutting. This means that when the sheet is re loaded after lamination that there is enough media behind the crop marks to cover the rear media sensor. If you don’t do this the printer will think it has run out of material.
5) After lamination reload material into versacamm (rectangle to rhs). A good tip is to have used the sheet off knife on the first edge to aid in getting it straight in the machine. I usually align this to a straight line on the machine heater or the cutter platen.
6) The printer will allow for around 5 degrees of slant on the media so it has to be something like.
7) Load the laminate sheet so that the crop mark with the rectangle next to it is in the bottom rhs next to where the heads sit. (as it was printed)
8) Move cutting carriage with curser keys so that the cutting blade is in line with the first crop mark circle then set this as base point. The machine will look for crop marks, but if you set the base point either on, or in line with them it cuts down on time searching.
9) The printer should find all 4 marks, if not reload and try again. Generally problems occur on the 1st mark if at all. If a problem occurs the display panel will warn you. Reset the base point directly over the first crop mark and try again.
10) From versa works select the same job and go into its settings.
11) Change cutting option in CUT CONTROLS tab to CUT ONLY
12) Another good tip is to ENABLE ADVANCED SETTINGS in the CUT CONTROL tab and make it so that CUT PASSES is set to 2. PRESSURE will be dependent on the condition of your blade but i usually find that 50g is sufficient. This is asking the machine to do 2 cut passes at 50g therefore 1 for the laminate film surface and 1 for the vinyl.
13) OK the settings and then PRINT the job again. Versa works will ask if you wish to re rip the file, select NO.
14) Job should cut.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies. Really appreciated. Just about to try it now. I was doing everything apart from the move carriage and set base point bit!
