  • What Price is Fair?

Posted by Paul Humble on 18 March 2008 at 19:37

I haven’t been doing vinyl very long at all but I have a chance of a good, reoccurring job from a local car tuning company to supply window stickers.

Its basically 2 letters is a spray can style in red, with a white outline. The measurements are 100mm x 150mm and the vinyl im using costs £3.00 each colour per metre on a 610mm wide roll.

I dont want to put them off by asking too much but I dont want to charge too little and risk not making enough on future orders from them.

How do others come up with prices for such items? I’m pretty stumped.

    Thanks

    Paul

Paul, pricing is always a bit of subjective thing, it depends on so many factors.
Quite often its not out of order to ask what they are paying at the moment, then work out if you can compete and be happy. if so go for it, if not pass it over.

I have a few regular customers that take several hundred stickers a month in one colour. No rush do do them, and all are easy to weed and cut, but if we have a spare half hour, we do a batch, so nice little fill ins, cost of material is not really that important, time to weed, apply app tape, and cut up is where the cost is (labour)

But as a very rough guide, depending on quantity, £1 each, max

Thanks for that Peter. Now I just have to figure out how to use registration marks!! :lol1:

£1 a sticker seems very good as they are very easy to weed and ill just put the wife on it!! 😛

Paul, you dont need reg marks for small stickers, there are far easier way to lay them up. Can you post an example of the design? dosnt need to be the actual one, just something similar.

I RECKON A £1 EACH WITH A MIN ORDER OF 100 UNITS, WHICH IS PEANUTS TO ANY COMPANY, I WOULD THEN PLUG AWAY IN THE BACKGROUND WITH BRANDING THE DESIGN INTO OTHER PRODUCTS AND JUST THROW INTO A FREINDLY CONVERSATION EVERY NOW AND AGAIN HOW ABOUT THIS IDEA?!!!!

WINDOW STICKER, NEW VAN, GARAGE SIGN, BUSINESS CARDS, LETTERHEADS, ANOTHER NEW VAN, WEBSITE THERES A COUPLE OF GRAND ALREADY!

    LITTLE ACORNS AN ALL THAT!

YOU NEVER KNOW AS THEY GROW, SO MAY YOU!

Its something like that with the main body and border being separated by a space.

That’s easy enough to do, just have a look through the tutorials for flexisign and it will show you how to do it.

I don’t see anything in the tutorials relating to this kind of job. I am more than likely not looking hard enough though.

    OK.
put a weed border around your design, then make an array of the decal, fitting as many across the page as you can, with 10mm between each, and then the same horizontally, for about 1.5 metres or so.
now put a weed border around the whole lot, cut the design by colour, and then weed all within the outer border, so all the decals are surrounded by a coloured border. Lay one layer on the bench and tap down at the edges. Apply app tape to the other layer, and then cut the corners from the border. Align this layer on top of the other, and tape down on one side or the centre. peel back and remove all or half of the backing paper and squeegy to the bottom layer. Cut up to size, no reg marks, job done.

Sounds complicated, but once sussed, is very simple
