  • How would you cut and apply this logo on a window with vinyl

Posted by joseramos on 17 March 2008 at 04:53

Can somebody give ideas on how to cut this graphic (see link below) with vinyl and how to apply it on a window. Do you use registration marks, registration bars or you would put the green globe over the other 4 colors, please advice.

    Thank you.

    Difficult one.

I would be inclined to get the logo printed onto clear vinyl then backed with white to bring out the colours.

Failing that – you just have to build it up in layers starting with red, green then orange followed by the other colours. Registration will be difficult though and the multiple number of layers makes it a better prospect to be printed.

    Good luck.

    Hmm, yes well…..what Phill said.

Also, with all those dark colours, there’s a good chance the whole thing will be a bit invisible on a window. Dark colours just don’t work well on windows.

As for registration, sometimes a paper drawing of the whole thing stuck to the outside of the window helps with alignment.

Not as hard as it looks, Internal and reversed I assume

centre circle first with knock outs for the orange (with knock outs for the states)
outer hemispheres with orange in one piece with continent next with a bleed, then the smaller pieces followed by the text. couple of dots here and there for alignment.

Ok printing would be quicker, to apply, but not that hard in cut vinyl, if you want to keep it in house.
I just mocked the layout up, took me 5 minutes in signlab, so cant be that hard if I can do it…

sorry cant post the file here, or I would to show how I did it

would do as peter says to be honest.

1, though i’d cut the blue text and the blue lower semi-circle bit as one (if not too big, and apply first.

then the dirty blue circle with the cut out for the orange map to sit in (+1mm contour to allow a bit of error),

then the orange / map as one,

then either of the others in any order.

wouldn’t take long to cut or two fit.

Shame on you phil and Andy, teaching Jose those bad habits, printing indeed, ha!
