  • why does a JV3 error flash up during a print run?

Posted by Richard Daniel on 28 February 2008 at 15:03

Hi guys, just was after a bit of advice.

This morning half was through a 10m print, the printer flashed up with ‘y error’ :hung:

I cleaned down the clear strip behind the head, there wasnt a great deal of dirt on the cloth as the printers reasonably well maintained, i thought while i was there, i’d rub a small bit of oil across the bar.

Now when i send something to print, nothing happens. the printer runs across as if it was printing but nothing actually prints onto the media,

I have done a nozzle wash, given everything a good clean and still nothing??

Has anyone else had this happen before?

    (I’m running shiraz)

Any advice will be mush appreciated.

    Cheers in advance

how is ‘test print’? is that working or not

also, did u just use water on the strip at the back? u didnt use a cleaner did you?
Oil not a problem. I think Y error is across the carriage, i cant be sure if thats X.

    Dave,

    Thanks for the reply,

Yeah, only cleaned it with water.

Its not even doing a test draw, it just carries out all the actions as if it was and nothing,

Just got off the phone to an engineer, he has advised me to do a nozzel wash, which has just finished, still nothing. 😥

there was a reason why I said Power off/on… i wasn’t mucking about.. I have seen a JV3-SP loose its will to fire until powered, infact my old JV3-S has I think.

    Thanks for the reply lads,

Tried the power off, it used to cure it sometimes when it would come up Y error,

Have run a few fill up inks, a 20 min nozzle wash, disconnected the firewire both ends, still nothing, what worries me is the technician is equally confused, he says it sounds like a serious mechanical error, and will probably involve a great expense.

Whats really annoying is that i need to print £1000 worth of banners, the client thinks they are being finished now

Error 43: Y over current occurs and printing stops.

1 Clean and oil main shaft.

2 Call service if the problem recurs even after cleaning.

Is it error 43? Y over current?

Basically means it trying trying to move the head across the carriage rail but requires too much power to move, so its stops and errors for safety.

But your saying it is moving and doing things, so this error seems to be random…
There isn’t much involved in moving the head across, I am wonder if something is jamming against the linear strip, is the red light on but then I think you would get other errors if it wasn’t reading the linear strip correctly.

You see, when you said that you was printing this morning and then it stopped, yes that could be a motor starting to pack up, but then you said that you cleaned down the strip and then tried to get it going. I am expecting the JV3 to make a mess or print well, not nothing at all. I am expecting at least one out of 4 heads to fire and print something.

This leads me to think you may have power supply regulation issues which are in the bottom back of the JV3, I wouldn’t bother looking, its way too many boards in there.

    Engineer time I think

    Hi Richard

My JV2 180 seems to be behaving the same as yours. Can’t even get a test print. I have pulled out the boards but can’t see any visual sign of a fault on them. I found 3 fuses on the power supply board but they were all fine when I checked them with a multi meter.

Hopefully you have solved your problem by now. What ended up being the solution ?

    Thanks
    Mark
