how do i stop getting porn on my laptop?
Posted by Lorraine Clinch on 12 February 2008 at 19:56Next problem, having to use an old laptop, due to wine spillage, but this one, despite having Comodo firewall & bioClean, comes up with porn sites every few seconds, unasked for, and definitely unwanted. Also getting other spamming sites, and I just don’t know how to stop it. Got the same protection on the other laptop, but doesn’t happen on that one. Does anyone have a foolproof way of stopping this please?

Foolproof format and re install windows.
or, get good anti spyware software. Ad-aware, [urlhttp://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Definition-File/3000-8022_4-10237235.html[/url]

Hi Lorraine
Have you updated the virus and spam software, if you haven’t used it in a while it might be out of date and need an online update. This might help.

Can you install the Google toolbar? It has a good pop-up blocker.
Also Spybot search and destroy and AVG are good free programs.

format and try again
but depends how easy it is to format lol
and remembering that those things you want are backed up.

This laptop was formatted just a few weeks ago, still keeps happening.
Jill I have the Google toolbar, I have got the blocker enabled, and I am about to update Comodo, although it was only installed after Christmas.
Just ran BoClean, it seems I have 47988 trojans are covered in your current BOC425.XVU file:!

That laptop must be worth a fortune! :lol1:
Download a program called "Hijack this" and post here or PM me the log file.

What version of windows is it running. If it’s XP you can set it to block any pop ups

someone at some stage has followed a link, or been surfing an infected site (like mine was a few weeks abck) and its downloaded a hidden file somewhere.
The fact that you have formatted it, and it still happens could mean that its memory resident, so even if you delete the file, it will save itself to the file again.
Sounds like the virus I had some time ago.
You can try here http://www.symantec.com/norton/security … ltools.jsp
but most will use system restore to put themselves back on your hard drive once you’ve restored your backup.
You’ll need to use spybot or adaware to find it probably, but its less likely to remove it. You’ll probably have to do that manually.
Hope that helps

It happened to me once when re-loading Win XP. I found out XP has a built in firewall that you need to turn on before you connect to the internet. This protected me while I set up my online protections. No problems since.

spybot search and destroy is a good one, i’ve used it for years. do a google search, it’s free.

Here’s a really good site if you are serious about infection problems.

This free file checking service can help as well.
