how do i wire the workings of LED’s?
Hi All,
This is probably posted in the wrong section….but….Would someone be able to point me in the right direction for wiring up LED’s – and the principals on how they work.
It is for a personal project I am working on. Would be mainly from a 12 or 24 volt dc supply.

What I need to find out is how to build led’s up in rows.
It for my race car, so I only have either 12v or 24v dc supply available.
I have been informed that led’s are to be wired in parallel, with a resistor in series.
There is obviously some electronic maths involved – ohms law etc, but never paid great attention at school. 🙄

There’s not too much to it, most LED’s switch on at +3V and once on basically conduct like a short circuit (no load) and as such must have a load in the circuit e.g. a resistor.

Like the others said LED’s are pretty basic solid state devices,but if you dont want to mess about what value resistors to use just go to a Maplin store and buy 12v led’s they have built in resistors to work at 12v ( it wont hurt if you wire them the wrong way around as well!)
If you are using them for illumination then they need to be in parallel if you wire them in series they kind of work like a bar graph

used to be able to buy small books with lots of led car related diagrams in them. rev counters batt indicators. maplins may still do them
