double pass on jv3 any suggestions please
Posted by Simon.James on 4 February 2008 at 22:28I HAVE GOT A JOB ON FOR A RAIL TRACK COMPANY I AM PRINTING SOME TAGS ON CLEAR VINYL TO GO ON STAINLESS STEEL ROUND TAGS AND I AM ALSO PRINTING SOME WARNING SIGNS ON CLEAR LAMINATE AND THEN I PLAN TO MOUNT THEM TO TO ENGINEERING GRADE 1 WHITE REFELCTIVE AND THEN ONTO RAILED SIGNAGE.
HOW DO I MAKE THE IMAGE A BIT MORE RICH WHEN PRINTING ONTO CLEAR, SOMEONE SUGGESTED THAT I TRY TO SET UP A DOUBLE PASS ON MY JV3 HOW DO YOU DO THIS?
1. I AM USING METAMARK CLEAR VINYL (OR LAMINATE)
2. I AM RUNNING SS2 INKS 4 & 4 ON A JV3
3. I AM USING SHIRAZ SOFTWARE
ANY SUGGESTIONS MOST APPRECIATED ON HOW OR IF I CAN SET UP A DOUBLE PASS TO ENHANCE THE PRINT.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ENGLISH LADS ON SATURDAY, ISNT ANYBODY OUT THERE UP FOR A GOOD WIND UP?
KIND REGARDS
SIMON

You can print direct onto the reflective. I have done chevrons for vans in the past done in Corel using the spot colour chart. Not 110% spot on but worked a treat and quick n easy to fit. Only works on white though.

my first suggestion would be, sort your keyboard out, my second would be if you can’t please stop shouting at us 🙄

Don’t worry Simon, Lynn told me off when I did that too. Call her Aunty Lynn then she’s really very nice. 😉

HI Karl
you have printed straight on to the reflective?, i was lead to believe you cant print on it, i know that Mactac do a printable reflective, but it isnt a true engineering grade product but more of a entry level product.
what was the stuff you printed on, did it have a honeycomb sort of patten on.
cheers

Simon, laminate, is not always good to print onto, only a few will be ok,
but then will you laminate the laminate?A double pass will not necessarily be needed, if mounting onto white, a single pass should be sufficient, a double or more passes is used when the material is "porous" so that the first pass is like an undercoat,
thats what I have found anyway.I know how to multiply the passe in signlab, but havnt a clue in Shiraz,

No it didn’t mate. Your referring to honey comb or 3m diamond reflective.
You said at the start it was engineering grade. It is Mactac but not suggested in the manual for printing onto. I had a chat with Mr.Normington on the phone once a few days before I got my JV3 and he told me you can print on any old sh*t. tried it on the reflective when the machine was set up and guess what? he was right. -
Simon, did you call Hexis like I suggested, I’m almost certain they do a honeycombe reflective that can be printed on.

Hello Peter
I only got as far as the Hexis Website, but the nice chap from Metamark who I deal with had a product code for a graphityp product, Rang them and they quoted me £16 a metre, but they said they have just had in a replica product in from China, basically the same stuff for £4.50 a metre. I went with the cheaper of the two, I will let you know how sorry I am when I print and cut it all within the next few days.
I was wondering is it worth trying to print directly on top of it, what do you think or is it a bad idea?
kind Regards
Simon

At that price, if its honeycombe, and reflects as good, why not try it, it cant do any harm to try, just set your head to high to be safe, print a meter and see how it turns out

I think I’m gonna move my business over to china. It’s cheaper there.
-
It is cheaper Karl, but then you will only get a bowl of rice for ten metres of printed vinyl!

It’d make a change to get paid Peter. Every Asian pizza house around here try and pay with mighty meaties & Chippies with Kebabs Now the Polish are different though. They bring their DSS cheques! 😀 😀

I think the level of goods coming out of china is top notch and there is a great market for people in this country in the short term to make good money. but the frightening thing is that are drawing in resources from all over the world. there are fields and fields of scrap metal down in Kent waiting to be shipped to china, thus keeping the price of scrap at a high in this country. I have also read that they will have such a demand for oil by 2014 that the oil industry will struggle to cope.
I have bought a lot from china the last year or so. heat press – £240 mug press – £65 camera lenses half the price of this country. you cant knock there goods they have definitely moved on the last few years and some of the build quality would even put us Brits to shame.

youll know a Friend of mine. Morgan who drinks down there! he,s an actor pobwyl cwm, tracey beaker and he was in my favorite ever film Twin Towns with Rhys Efans. I Think He almost lives in the Duke.
wouldn’t recommend you buy a secondhand solvent unless you know the history.
might be able to help you out on prints if you ever need anything, just opening a studio down by the ocean park pub
