what processor? if it was a pretty cheap laptop, there’s a good chance it’ll be an intel celeron processor, you want at least centrino in general.

Check the start up programs to see what it is trying to run in the background. Usually a load of crap so you can delete whatever program that is not needed to stop it loading up. 😕

I’ve been told windows vista unpacks a massive amount of info when it’s booted up. A low spec pc or laptop doesn’t stand a chance using vista. This is only what I’ve been told though. I haven’t used it yet.

…and anything under 2Gb of RAM and it’ll crawl anyway…Vista is a power hungry monster!

1Gb will get it moving…but some PC’s are still sold with a pitiful 512Mb RAM (I know, I bought one…instantly invalidated my warranty by opening the case. 🙄

Also clean out all of the TEMP FILES, COOKIES, HISTORY etc.

(In Windows Explorer – TOOLS – INTERNET OPTIONS – BROWSING HISTORY (set BROWSING HISTORY to 0 days & DELETE files) – do this daily…weekly at least.

I’d normally recommend a fairly powerful PC cleaning program, but any misuse / errors by an ‘inexperience user’ results in dire consequences!

If it’s JUST the net that is crawling, check your download speed as (say on ZDNET if you are on cable) there has been a lot of work going the last few days that Virgin aren’t openly publicising (unless you ‘have words’ with their sterling service personnel in Pakistan or wherever).

basically windows vista shouldnt be used with anything less than 2gb of ram, I see a lot of laptops coming with 1 as standard, if his has 1 gig there lies your problem, Its like running windows XP on 128 meg, you can do it but itll drive you to suicide almost.

The laptop hes got is only 512 ram its slow at everything.
He tried it on my internet 4mb broardband and still crap.

Mine is 1.4 celeron with 1 mb ram and its really quick on xp.

I’ll tell him to take it back.
