  • Bike wrapping, can i buy coloured wrap vinyl?

Posted by adamck on 29 January 2008 at 12:09

    Hi guys,
I wanted to wrap the bottom of my fairings in black (like the dark blue at the bottom of this bike with the sponsors on)

I just want it plain black.
Can i buy specific coloured wrap vinyl? i don’t have a solvent printer and as i only want it plain it would be handy.
Looking for wrap vinyl seems to be abit awkward.
Can anyone link me to somewhere that sells black vinyl suitable for what i need and how much it costs?
    Thanks Alot.

    Oracal 751C Cast
55 micron, high performance cast film. UV stabilisers. Solvent based polyacrylic permanent adhesive. Fire retardant self-extinguishing qualities. Excellent conformity over rivets and corrugations. Ideal for high quality vehicle and marine graphics.

    Would that be ok?
Also how complicated would it be to apply to the side of my bike? can i find any tutorials? will anyone write a quick how-to?
I want to wrap this bike at the bottom of the fairing (not a huge area)

    Ad.

I’ve used 751c Oracal and 3M 7725 (same stock, different glue) and its very good, but if you don’t know what you’re doing, it will be a trial. The 2 products I mentioned are a better choice.

Short answer, yes you can use 751c, but overstretching will cause a colour change. The specialist wrap materials will too, but are much more forgiving.

    Horses for courses I guess.

Gold + members have access to the tutorials, but you might find something on youtube?

An experienced applicator would not find doing the farings a chore, but its a big ask for a learner.

Start with oversized sections and trim it back, don’t skimp of the material you use. You’ll have a bit of waste, but it will be the quickest way to do it.

    Cheers
    Shane
