can anyone help please with plotter not cutting properly?
Ive set up my plotter to cut and it starts off okay but after a few seconds of cutting it starts to rip the vinyl. Can anyone help please

Jane a bit more detail would be useful to try and sort out your plotter problem. What plotter are you using, what software are you using? and what sort of vinyl are you trying to cut?
Could be down to a number of different things or a combination of things so some more detail will help narrow it down.

i would hazard a guess, and say the blade is cutting too deep, and/or maybe too much pressure. this causes the blade to cut right through the vinyl and the backing paper, making the vinyl ruck up, catch on the blade holder, and tear.

The Model of Plotter is a Mimaki CG 60SL.
Yes it does have pinch rollers
Software: Fine cut 7 CS3
The Vinyl is Easimark Cotton
The rollers are positioned properly, yes
I will explain in depth
The vinyl loads fine, the cutting starts fine and cuts as it should do but then it appears to start cutting deeper as plotting progress’s. At that point I have to switch the unit off. -
ok, different machine to me, but generic problems!
i’ve had a similar problem in the past, it’s normally associated with me using the end of a roll, especially on something like a thicker vinyl, carbon, etc, as it’s rolled tight on the roll, it can tend to hold a memory which makes it lift a bit when it comes over the cutting strip, causing the blade to cut too deep, …….
the other is sometimes that the roll holders (i have two wheels which insert into the tubes) are not 100% straight, the vinyl can sometimes try to ride up as it comes through the plotter,
reflective gives me the biggest headache, as it holds it’s memory very well, i find it best to lay it out on the bench the night before, it’s alot easier to use then.
i still think your blade might be too deep though, it shouldn’t be able to cut through if it’s set at the right depth.
what pressure are you using on the blade? i find about 90g is perfect with a new blade, on most vinyls, it might be you’re using too little pressure and too much blade, you might not be, but worth a double check,
these problems are normally something very simple and we scratch our heads for hours, looking for a technical answer!

i guess i should have added that it cold also have been too much pressure! oh well, all is well now.
