Posted by Terry Bull on 8 December 2007 at 00:27Hi
Got a job coming up involving some large printed logos and text to be applied to a 40ft trailer
trouble is this trailer is covered in rivets
anyone got any experience applying to surfaces like this
where do you start …Terry

Apply as if they were not there and do it using a felt squeegee…
once the vinyl is over it and nice and tight around the rivett pin the centre and work air out with a heat gun and your squeegee. it sounds long winded but i can do it very quick. (but not that i need to these days as not many vehicles with rivetts at all)there is also the new Rollepro that applies vinyl over rivettes very well.
i have one and have tried it out, but only two or three times. (it is not as easy as it looks) it requires a technique and i think unless i am shown this by someone like rob ivors who is confident in using it, start to finish, i cannot give a fair comment on the product.
i know the concept of using it and the air channel that should be left to allow the expultion of air etc. i just think like most things, it will take practice. as i said, i virtually have no need for the product but i love to have a play with new products as i am always looking for ways to better my ability in almost any aspect of our trade.
the rollepro cost about £25 from jag supplies… so NOT expensive when you consider what "can" be acheived with a bit of practice. that is, savings on labour and an excellent finish to your job.$this->auto_embed_video(‘http://www.youtube.com/v/3Z4YSMH06l4?version=3&hl=en_US’, ‘560’, ‘340’)

Just make sure you charge plenty Terry.
It’s going to take ages. 😀

Cast vinyl is a must and the fastest fit I have found on rivets is to use a rivet brush and dry application.

quote Robert Lambie:there is also the new Rollepro that applies vinyl over rivettes very well.

Agree that it is not as easy as the video makes it look but thought it worked a treat on Swage lines and panel returns 😀
