  • Diamond grade reflective, what make is it?

Posted by Stephen Morriss on 4 December 2007 at 13:13

    Hi All

I’ve normally used 3M in the past but it’s really expensive and I could do with finding a similar material cheaper

It’s for a 150mm wide bright yellow (like the police yellow not amber) stripe down each side of a mountain rescue Landrover and the other vehicles use a reflective material like the 3M Diamond grade but not quite the same, the patten is a different shape so I think it’s another manufacturer.

So does anyone have any other suppliers of hi grade Reflective that you can buy just part rolls from, I’ll need about 10m.

I’ll put a picture of it in the files section.

    Thanks
    Steve

the honeycomb stuff is the 3M diamond grade…
    the triangle is "i think" nikalite’s version…
Avery also do their own too…
Oracal are about to, or already have, released theirs too… (better check on that though)

    I’d stick with the 3M.
I’d rather pay more for something that is easier to work with and I know I can trust.
I bought Oracal engineer grade reflective last year for a job, and ended up sending it back and buying 3M after finding Oracal easy to tear, brittle, and a bitch to weed.
    (I use other Oracals daily)
Never having used diamond grade, I will still recommend sticking with 3M.

The yellow stuff looks like Reflexite VC-312. Even dearer than DG but doesn’t need edge sealing and you can cut it a lot easier. Sticks like shite to an army blanket.

    The blue looks like Nikkalite.

Wow that was quick, just popped in for some lunch and I get 4 replies, thanks.

I’ve been onto Europoint and they don’t stock an equivelent so would have to get a whole roll in for me.

Tried Grafityp and they don’t stock the one in their Sept 07 catalogue now, they can’t get it anymore.

I like the 3M stuff but unless you buy whole rolls it’s double the price nearly. I have red and Amber in 25mm and 100mm in rolls but I use that quite often, this is the first time I’ve needed the 150mm wide yellow stuff and I know the mountain rescue will not need it again for a few years.

I think I’ll just have to bite the bullet and not make much profit on this job, I’m doing other jobs for them like printed stickers etc quite often so in the long run it’ll work out. I hope 🙂

Just got the go ahead so I’ll have to order it now.

Does Fellers ship overseas? They sell vinyl by the yard.

Yes I’ve ordered it from Wm Smiths, their a bit cheeky, ordered £250 of vinyl and they’re charging delivery. 👿

Still my account was still open so I don’t have to pay for it until the end of the month.

Wm Smiths sell it by the Meter Jill so not a problem getting small quantities, just a very expensive way of doing it 🙂

P.S. Thanks for moving the picture for me Rob.

Just a quick update, William Smiths didn’t charge delivery on the invoice, and I even got a phone call apologizing for saying they were going to.
