  • can vinyl be sprayed with car laquer?

    hi guys
    i have been asked to make some vinyl decals for a motor bike tank but can anybody tell me if the vinyl is ok to be clear lacqueredd with car laquer ?
    i have had a look on the forum but cant find an answer.

    the only time i have had a problem is with the aerosols there is to much thinners in them.
    those done by a spray shop using the two pack system all fine.

    Have done it in the past. Just do it in 2 or 3 light layers. Too much, too soon & it’ll just crinkle up as the solvents eat the vinyl.

    2-pack seems to be better as it’s no where near as aggressive (but being phased out I think), moving onto water based paints these days in pro-spray shops.

    I would suggest that it’s not the best idea for a flawless finish. Factory decals are much, much thinner than standard vinyl. You’ll probably end up with a bit of a ridge unless prepared to clear coat 6+layers & sand it back down over the vinyl.
