    HI all,

i have been asked to vinyl a company van, but he has mentioned about a type of vinyl which when a very small electrical current is passed through it it glows or lights up, i have searched and cannot find any info about it.

Has anyone used or seen what i have been told or is he just pulling my leg

    Thanks in advance

There is such a thing as electroluminescent vinyl. I seem to remember a recent post on the subject. Do a bit of searching, also known as EL lighting.

EL lighting usually consists of EL wire, or glow wire, or light tape.
The latter is extremely expensive and by expensive I mean a square metre is £700 + vat
I use EL wire on some signs that I do, its ok for internal and they do make an external one and even a waterproof one you can use for pools etc.
it wouldnt be much good for halo lighting etc as Its not quite bright enough, however I decorated a hat with it for beautiful days festival and you could see me a mile off.
Mind you \I must have used 15 metres of the stuff.

The person who has asked me to do the job is a self employed electrician so i reckon it would be a great idea.

It does look good and would look the business onthe side of a van, maybe under clear vinyl etc as it would go missing else.
Also runs from a cigarettete lighter and you can even get sound to light units for it so if he had a stereo it would flash in time to the music.
