  • can anyone help with error message on a grenadier please?

We are the proud owners of a grenadier V1 printer (3years old).
It has been fine for the whole time (weve had a few engineers over the years for new heads / calibration / pumps etc), but recently when we go to print and cut we have an error message come up: FEED MOTOR ERROR 01011 or 00011… the sequence of events is this:-

    SEND PRINT WITH CUTLINES.
PRINTS OUT. REVERSES MEDIA FOR CUT.
MOTOR TRIES TO MOVE TO CUT BUT THEN STOPS ALMOST AS SOON AS IT STARTED.
THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHEN CUT IS SENT AS A SEPARATE FILE (ie registration marks, taken out and re-registered..as soon as it tries to cut it locks up)

Unfortunately we let our maintenance contract lapse.. so no help there.

I did have a different problem once and the engineer(over the phone) showed me how to reset the zero on the scan motor (LIMIT INITIALIZE).

I was thinking that this was probably the same thing, just on the feed motor instead, like it can’t find it’s zero point to start cutting from, but after calling B+P they told me there is NO zero-reset on the feed motor and we probably need a new one (if the heads are 2grand a set imagine what a motor+fitting is!! yeah right.

Anyone got any ideas?? ive run out, but do find it hard to believe that there is no zero reset on the feed motor.. Anyone with a service manual!!??

PS. just before this happened, i tugged on the roll of media from behind the printer while the printer was powered down(sub power on), and the media moved (grit rollers were down).. this is the only thing i can think that has happened out of the ordinary, and adds weight to the zero-point theory i have..

sorry i waffled.. any thoughts would be massively welcomed.

the limit initialize does not reset the motor, it just tells the printer where its cut down position and capping position is in accordance with the encoder strip. for example when initialized after say a main board replacement, the printer might say Roland SC??? because it doesnt know its width because the limit position has not been set up.

after it is performed it will say Roland SC540 or 640 etc etc.

the feed motor has its own encoder but it is not resettable as BP said.

if its the sc540, feed motor £195.00 +vat Roland retail price.
